Connecticut Wedding Flowers in 2012 by Earth Blossoms

Now that the year is coming to an end I am reflecting back on my 2012 weddings. Usually I wander over a border to NY or Ma but I am amazed that in this record year all of my weddings in 2012 were in Connecticut!
Through Earth Blossoms I was a part of 73 weddings in 2012 and now the big question on the horizon for me is:

What incredible ideas can I come up with for 2013?

After having been in business on my own now since the 80’s I have done and seen more weddings than I can count! I am amazed that still every year there is something new that comes up. A venue I have not been to, a photographer that I have not worked with before and ultimately new ideas that I have to formulate!  I am always trying to think of a new way to present flowers including varieties that have been around for centuries.
This is what my focus will be for the month of January. It is a month filled with wedding appointments with brides and grooms eager to book for the 2013 season. I am looking forward to working on new designs for these new couples.  In a sign of the times we are called on to create stand out designs while keeping costs down! Of course, we have to charge a certain amount for our flowers after all we are in business, want to stay there and contrary to common belief we can’t just pick the flowers on the side of the road!
As a florist I think one of the most important components of a wedding are the flowers. So stay tuned because I will be posting some of my creative new designs here for you to see!
Here are a few photos from some of Earth Blossom’s 2012 weddings.

Weddings at Eolia Mansion/Harkness State Park, Waterford, CT

When I grew up down the street it was known as "Harkness".
My friends and I spent many days here wandering around the beautiful lawn with the shade trees, the daffodils in the spring and the gorgeous view of the ocean. They never allowed swimming here but I would bring my dog and she would swim in the ocean and run around the lawn there were no leash laws then. I think the mansion and the  surrounding gardens etc were in disrepair and no one was allowed near them.

Now it is beautifully revitalized and the most fortunate couples get to have their wedding ceremonies and receptions here. Some of what I loved about the freedom of wandering around Harkness when I was young is now gone but the improvements have been made to benefit the general public. I remember when the first “dogs must be on leash” sign went up and they started to charge for parking - I was shocked. But the same old copper beech trees are here, the ocean with the view of the ledge lighthouse, the endless and gorgeous green lawn and of course the beach.

So far in wedding season 2012 at Earth Blossoms we have had two weddings at Harkness and both included lots of ivory and blush peonies.  Perfect flowers in a truly perfect setting.
My Mother was born in Waterford and I was, too and unfortunately Harkness was not our family estate! Here are some photos of the two Spring 2012 weddings. I can’t wait to see the professional photos from these events. I am sure they will be even more gorgeous!
